VE Day 75th Anniversary – Friday 8 May 2020

Keep calm and stay at home

This year’s VE Day 75th Anniversary celebrations will now be different to what many of us had planned.

Whatever your plans, please follow all the government’s guidelines to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

You can find more advice and local information on our dedicated coronavirus page

We’ve created a party pack so that you can still mark the occasion, stay safe at home and follow the social distancing rules.

We’ve got everything you need to celebrate in person with your household and virtually with your friends and family, from decorations to recipes and even a playlist to enjoy!

Let us know how you’re marking the anniversary of VE Day. Share your

photos and videos with us @MyWakefield on Instagram and Twitter.

Our party pack includes:

  • Decorations to make at home
  • Recipes from the 1940s
  • A Spotify playlist to get your party started
  • A party planner with suggested games and activities
A message from the Mayor of Wakefield

Get involved and help celebrate key workers

First of all we want to say massive thank you to everyone who got on board with #ThankHoliday on 10 April, and shared our message or created your own. It was a fantastic success, reaching 739,642 via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and got #ThankHoliday trending.

This was a great show of people coming together to send a message of positivity to all key workers - and we would like to do it all over again!

This time we want to create a compilation video message of thanks to our key workers. We would like you, your family and friends to get involved and star in your own video clip that we will share across all our social media channels.

All you have to do is create a short video clip saying:

“I/We want to say a big ThankHoliday to all the key workers keeping the UK running this Bank Holiday!”

You can be as fun and creative as you like, costumes, pets and children all very welcome! You can involve everyone in your household and get your family or friends to make a clip too! Please stay safe though.
