Buckets and spades at the ready – the beach is back
There’s no need to
travel to the coast this summer, Wakefield Council is bringing the beach back!
The beach and seaside entertainment is returning to Wakefield city centre on
Saturday 11, 10am-5pm, and Sunday 12 August, 10am-4pm and to Castleford town centre
on Saturday 18 August, 10am-4pm. The Seaside events offer a chance for families
to have all the fun of the seaside close to home.
Dig out those flip flops as both seaside events will have a big beach for
making sandcastles. There’s also free donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, face
painting, a helter skelter and much more.
New this year - children's TV favourite, Peppa Pig, will also be making a guest
appearances at the Wakefield seaside event. Peppa will meet and greet her young
fans twice on each day in Wakefield, whilst also making regular appearances on
stage.
Cllr Jacquie Speight,
Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “We
all love to be beside the seaside, so get your flip flops ready and grab your
buckets and spades for a weekend of free family fun. Last year saw over 51,000
people enjoying the seaside entertainment, and this year is shaping up to be
the biggest and best yet.
“The Wakefield seaside will be boasting its biggest beach yet and we’re
delighted to announce kid’s TV favourite - Peppa Pig - is also coming along for
some seaside fun. Then there’s even more thrills and excitement as the beach
visits Castleford the following week.”
There will also be free family fun workshops taking place and a variety of
market stalls and food on offer.
Visitors can share their photos on the events Facebook page www.facebook.com/eventsinwakefield
