Bereavement services at Pinderfields Hospital
Wakefield Council has
teamed up with bereavement services at Pinderfields Hospital to help make
registering the death of a loved one easier.
The Council is now offering appointments at Pinderfields to help support people
during a difficult time by providing a simpler and shorter journey to register
a death.
The Bereavement Services staff at Pinderfields are now able to arrange an
appointment with the registrars at the same time that bereaved families contact
them to collect the cause of death certificate. This removes the need for
families to contact the Council’s Registrars service to make an additional
appointment to register the death at Wakefield or Pontefract Town Hall.

Cllr Les Shaw with registrars at Pindersfields Hospital
Cllr Les Shaw,
Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: “When a loved
one passes away it is such a difficult time. We want to do all we can to
support people to register a death as quickly and as easily as possible. That
is why we are working closely with the bereavement services at Pinderfields
Hospital so that deaths can be officially registered when collecting the cause
of death certificate, removing the need for an extra appointment.
“We’ve been offering this service since mid-May and it has been working well,
with 100% take up of the service so far.”
The registrars currently offer afternoon appointments from Monday to Friday at
Pinderfields. If the demand and positive feedback for the service continues,
the Council will look at options to extend it.
