reminding residents that the city’s favourite foodie attraction returns this
The three-day Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb returns to the city centre on
Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February.
This year the festival is celebrating its 12th year and has added even more
family entertainment to mark the occasion.
A new family marquee will be in the Bull Ring, jam-packed with fun activities
and entertainment for younger visitors. Visitors can take part in exciting
story and craft sessions, cooking sessions, sporty activities to burn off some
energy and even ‘lab rascal’ sessions to make their own sherbet and have a go
at extracting rhubarb DNA!
The festival is also teaming up with regional radio station, Heart Yorkshire.
Dixie and Emma from Heart Breakfast will be taking part in a special cook-off
in the demonstration tent on the Saturday, where they will go head to head and
have their efforts judged by Michelin award-winning chef, Jean-Christophe
Celebrity chef, Jean-Christophe, will also once again be delighting the crowds
with his culinary expertise in the demonstration tent on Saturday 24 February.

Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “This
year’s festival promises to be the best one yet. Some of the region’s tastiest
food and drink will be on offer, alongside amazing cookery demos, fabulous
street entertainment and kid’s activities. There really is something for
everyone. So come along and join us this weekend.”
The festival will have more than 70 stalls selling a variety of rhubarb produce
such as breads, cakes, sausages and pies, including a Deliciously Yorkshire
The demonstration tent will be welcoming top local chefs including Heather
Copley of Farmer Copley’s, Ashley and Ben McCarthy from Ye Old Sun, Fiona
Sciolti from Sciolti Chocolates, David Jones from Bier Haus and Stephanie Moon
from Rudding Park.
New to the festival this year - visitors will be able join in the fun on
Snapchat by using and sharing pictures at the event using the specially-created
The Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb takes place in Wakefield City centre
and runs from 10am – 5pm on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 February, and 10am - 4pm
on Sunday 25 February.
