Market Trader of the Year 2017
Pontefract stall
holder, Matthew Jones, has been named as Wakefield District’s Market Trader of
the Year 2017.
Mr Jones, who started trading at Pontefract Market two years ago with his
business Picson Printing, beat off competition from traders across the
district.
Picson Printers specialises in garment printing, photo and canvas printing and
personalised gifts and embroidery.

Mr Jones said: “We
would like to thank our staff, the customers, traders and markets office staff
for all the support and custom they have given us.”
He was presented with his certificate by Cllr Denise Jeffery, Wakefield
Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, on Wednesday 14
June.
Cllr Jeffery said: “Huge congratulations to Matthew. He is a great ambassador
for Pontefract market. The judges were very impressed with his stall and
customer service. He fought off stiff competition from many other traders
across the district, as so many are passionate about knowledgeable about their
products. This makes our markets such friendly and welcoming places to
shoppers.”
The annual competition, organised by Wakefield Council, recognises the
contribution of the district’s markets and traders to local communities, and
gives the public the chance to nominate their favourite trader.
Each of the district’s six markets in Normanton, Ossett, Pontefract,
Castleford, South Elmsall and Wakefield held a competition earlier in the year
to find their winners. All six finalists were then visited by mystery shoppers
who helped choose the Market Trader of the Year. The winner will receive £250
of free trading.
