Success for Wakefield secondary schools

Date: 24/1/2017
Ref: PR 8466

A new government benchmark called 'Progress Eight' shows that Wakefield schools are the best in West Yorkshire.

The 'Progress Eight' score for Wakefield - the amount children have learned during their time in Wakefield secondary schools - is above the national average, best out of all five West Yorkshire Councils, and third best in the whole of the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

Cllr Peter Box CBE, Leader of Wakefield Council, said: "We are delighted that pupils in secondary schools in Wakefield have made the most progress in West Yorkshire at the time of their GCSE exams.

"I would like to congratulate all the students on their hard work and successes in their GCSE exams, and thank their parents and teachers who have supported them."
