Pontefract Spotters Guide

Date: 9/1/2017
Ref: PR 8451

The Pontefract Townscape Heritage Initiative is launching a fun architectural treasure hunt around Pontefract Town Centre for children and families.

The new 'Pontefract Spotters Guide' takes participants on an activity trail around the town centre, with buildings to spot, things to colour in and questions to answer.

The guide is free and available to pick up from Pontefract Museum and Pontefract Castle, and is also available to download from the Experience Wakefield website from Tuesday 10 January.

Cllr Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Growth, said: "The Pontefract Spotters Guide is a new, exciting way to celebrate Pontefract's rich heritage. The buildings are steeped in history and this fun activity trail brings them to life, with puzzles and activities for the whole family to enjoy as they explore the town centre.

"I encourage as many people as possible to take part and discover more about the town's unique history in this creative way."

The activities in the trail are suitable for children of all ages. There is a match-up challenge for younger children, trail puzzles to solve for those aged five and up, and older children will enjoy discovering the trail answers.

The Pontefract Spotters Guide has been created by specialist heritage illustrators Blackbird Publishing and has been produced as part of the Pontefract Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), which is jointly funded by Wakefield Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Pontefract THI has funded conservation work and repairs in the town centre and also aims to promote the town's historic buildings and unique history

The guide will be available to download at www.experiencewakefield.co.uk/spottersguide from Tuesday 10 January.
