Seaside comes to Wakefield and Castleford

Date: 25/07/2016

Ref: PR 8299

The seaside is coming back to Wakefield and Castleford this summer.

On Saturday August 13 and Sunday August 14 the beach is back in Wakefield city centre for its free annual seaside event.  The seaside is coming to Castleford on Saturday August 20.

Bring a bucket and spade, as both seaside events will have a big beach for making sandcastles. There's also free donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, face painting and balloon modelling. There will be free workshops, a variety of market stalls and food providers. This year's seaside-themed street entertainment will include stilt walking lobsters and walkabout pirates.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport at Wakefield Council, said: "Sharpen up your sandcastle making skills, and dig out your flip flops for some free family fun as the seaside makes an exciting return to the district this August.

"There are so many fun-filled free activities on offer and we hope lots of families can join us for a great time at our seaside."

Other attractions in Wakefield will include a Victorian carousel (a small charge applies) and a TV screen featuring themed films including Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo, and Lilo and Stitch.

Seaside in Wakefield is on Saturday August 13, 10am – 5pm, and Sunday August 14, 10am – 4pm. All activity takes place at Wakefield Cathedral Precinct

The seaside in Castleford is on Saturday August 20, 10am – 4pm, in the heart of Castleford town centre.
