Dates: 28/10/2015

The festive spirit is coming to the district as it gears up for Christmas markets and lights switch-ons.

The celebrations will include Christmas markets in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford, giving people the chance to buy festive gifts, along with a selection of treats including hot street food and festive drinks. The events will also feature street entertainment and live music.

This year the Council’s Wakefield Christmas lights switch-on will take place on Thursday November 12, with the lights being switched on at 5pm in the Bull Ring.
Entertainment will include the carving of an ice sculpture in the Bull Ring from 10am – 5pm. Visitors will be able to watch experts transform a one ton block of ice into a reindeer and sleigh. Once completed youngsters will be able to sit in the sleigh for a festive selfie.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: “We want to encourage everyone to come and enjoy the city centre and towns this Christmas.
“The lights switch-ons and Christmas markets mark the start of the festive period and provide an opportunity for families and friends to get together, enjoy entertainment and the shopping experience.”
