Have your say on leisure facilities

Ref: PR 4665
Date: 5/8/2014

Residents are being reminded to have their say on the district's leisure facilities by taking part in the consultation.

The consultation is still open until August 12 for residents to make the Council aware of their needs and views as part of the leisure services review before a final decision is made.

The Council launched a review into all its leisure facilities last year in response to the deteriorating condition of pools and continued cuts in Government funding.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "We are reminding residents that there is still time to have their say on leisure facilities in the district. We want as many people as possible to take part so that we can provide the best for residents in light of increasing financial challenges."

The consultation can be completed online at www.wakefield.gov.uk/leisureconsultation or residents can pick up a paper version from any Council swimming pool, sports centre, library or the Wakefield One Contact Centre.

Wakefield Council currently runs two leisure centres in Wakefield at Sun Lane and Thornes Park, and five others in Normanton, Featherstone, Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley. Minsthorpe Pool closed last year after an inspection revealed it needed major repairs.

Following the consultation a report will be presented to the Council's key decision makers later in the year.
