Wakefield Council is welcoming residents to come, watch and enjoy the Pontefract Grand Prix.
The elite race will take place on August 10 when riders from various top professional teams including Youth races, Women's and Men's 234 races, and Mens elite races will come through the town past a crowd of excited spectators.
The event, in partnership with British Cycling and HARIBO Beacon Cycling Team will start at 10am and end around 3.30pm. There will also be an opportunity for people of different abilities, from novice to regular cyclists, families and even children, to join in the cycling fun and ride their bikes in a safe and traffic free environment from midday.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: "This is a really exciting event and one for the all family to come along to and enjoy a day of racing – no matter how old you are. And there are many open roads for spectators to ride on – so who knows – we may have a top cyclist amongst the crowds!
"This event will bring together the inspiration and success of Le Tour De France to capture the hearts and minds of so many people across the district who watched one of the most iconic races in the world. We want to continue to build on this enthusiasm for cycling and are proud to welcome some of countries most elite cyclists.
"We would also like to thank our partners and sponsors who - of course without - none of this would have been possible."
The event is being delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Pro-Cycling and British Cycling and its good to see partners coming together and making a difference to local communities."
The event will also include a food village, stalls and trade areas.
