Council celebrates National Bike Week
Wakefield Council is inviting residents to jump on their bikes to celebrate and participate in National Bike Week taking place from June 14 to 22.
To coincide with National Bike Week the Council is organising various upcoming cycling events including:
• Sky Ride local bike rides with the next two rides taking place on Sunday June 22 at Frickley Country Park and Ossett Cricket Club. The ride at Frickley Country Park starts at 2pm and is an easy going ride, ideal for families whilst the ride at Ossett Cricket Club begins at 10am and has a more steady pace.
• Wakefield District Cycle Forum rides throughout bike week with rides beginning on Saturday June 14 at 10.15am at Anglers Country Park and Sunday June 15 at Nostell Priory at 10.15am.
• Bike hire facilities at Anglers Country Park to give people who don't have a bike a chance to enjoy Wakefield. Bikes are available in various sizes for £2 per hour. For details call the park's reception on 01924 303980.
• Free bike training sessions ideal for new cyclists or people wishing to brush up their knowledge to maintain your bike and keep it in tip-top condition. For more details visit www.wygocycling.com
Cllr Les Shaw, Wakefield Council's cabinet member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: "Cycling is a low-cost, fun activity which doesn't pollute the environment and also helps to reduce the risk of heart disease. With the Tour De France a matter of weeks away – this is sure to get everyone inspired to get on their bikes this summer.
"I urge everyone in the district to get on their bikes during National Bike Week to enjoy the cycle-friendly, picturesque, and traffic free routes of Wakefield."
