Leader thanks people for supporting #ThankHoliday campaign
Thousands
of people from across the country took to social media to support key workers
over the bank holiday weekend.
Wakefield
Council’s #ThankHoliday campaign encouraged people to get creative by using
household objects such as books, toys games and even socks, to spell out
the words ‘Thank Holiday’ and then shared images and messages on Facebook,
Twitter and Instagram.
The
campaign was such a success that #ThankHoliday was ‘trending’ on Good Friday on
Twitter, meaning it was amongst the most popular world-wide tweets. During the
weekend more than 700,000 people saw the message on a social media account.
Tweets
from famous faces Keith Lemon and Chris Kamara, and famous brands such as
Haribo and Warbutons helped to spread heart-warming messages.
Cllr
Denise Jeffery, Leader of Wakefield Council, said: “I’d like to extend my
sincere thanks to everyone who supported this innovative campaign which caught
the imagination of so many people not only here in Wakefield but across the
country.
“Key
workers deserve to be recognised and praised for the fantastic work they are
doing to keep our district up and running in these challenging times.
“From
speaking to colleagues I know how much this support is appreciated and I thank
each and every single person who took part and shared their messages of
support.”
