Wakefield Armed Forces Day cancellation

27/03/2020, PR-9359

Following the announcement that the national Armed Forces Day event has been cancelled, in line with Government advice to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, Wakefield Council are deeply disappointed to announce the cancellation of Wakefield’s Armed Forces Day.

The event, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday 27 June 2020, marks the outstanding contribution that our Armed Forces make to the country with a day of fun and activities.

However, plans are already in place to arrange an even bigger and better event next year to celebrate our Armed Forces.

Cllr Sandra Pickin, Wakefield Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “We understand that the cancellation of this event will be very disappointing for our residents, participants and stallholders but safety must come first.

“We must be responsible and follow the Government’s advice to protect the NHS and save lives.

“However, the focus now turns to next year and arranging a fantastic event for us all to show our support and gratitude for those who have served or are currently serving in the forces, and their families.”

All those involved in the event will be contacted by the Council.
