Council preparing Towns Fund bid
Council is asking residents to share their views on Castleford town centre to
help prepare a bid for a slice of the £3.6billion Towns Fund.
has been given the opportunity to bid into the Government scheme which aims to
drive the economic
regeneration of towns through investment in areas such as connectivity, land use, economic assets including cultural assets, skills
and enterprise infrastructure.
Council has established the Castleford Taskforce, a board that is made up of a wide variety of local businesses, funding partners,
community groups, local ward members and the local Member of Parliament, Yvette
Cooper. The Taskforce’s role is to represent the town and set the vision and
strategy for the Town Investment Plan.
The Taskforce would like local
people to assist with the drawing up of the plan and want to hear how residents
feel Castleford can become a sustainable and thriving place where communities
can enjoy living and working.
Byford, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and
Regeneration, said: “I welcome the news that Castleford has been selected by Government
to take part in the application process for the Towns Fund. This is a fantastic
opportunity alongside our existing investment plans for Castleford.
“We will work
closely with our partners through the Castleford Taskforce to produce our Town
Investment Plan with the aim of
driving long term economic and productivity growth.”
