Wakefield city centre

People with an interest in supporting the work of Wakefield Council are being invited to apply to become members of its overview and scrutiny committees and the audit and governance committee.

Overview and scrutiny committees are made up of councillors and members of the public (co-opted members) who work together to review public services and make recommendations for improvement for the benefit of people who live and work in the district.

The audit and governance committee is made up of councillors plus one member of the public (an independent member). The committee provides independent oversight of the adequacy of the Council’s risk management framework, the internal control environment and the integrity of financial reporting and annual governance processes.

Cllr Michael Graham, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “These volunteers play a very important role in supporting the work of the Council.

“They work alongside councillors to influence how we, and other public organisations, deliver services and they make recommendations for improvements that will help local people. If you are interested, please get in touch to find out more.”

All applicants need to be aged 18 years or over, live or work in the Wakefield district and must not be currently employed by Wakefield Council.

For the audit and governance role, applicants are also required to have knowledge of public sector finance, risk management, corporate governance and the roles of internal and external audit and also experience of the public sector and/or large complex organisations at a senior level.

The closing date for applications is Friday 27 March.
