Going, Going, Gone! Making way for Castleford’s exciting new Riverside regeneration project

Tuesday, April 30, 2024

In 2019, the Council started work on a long-term plan to transform Castleford into a distinctive Riverside Market Town.

Following our success in securing the Town Deal - £23.9m of Government funding – we have been hard at work developing our plans for the first phase of this process.

Over the past couple of months, council appointed contractors have been onsite down by the river.

Passers-by might have noticed some of the abandoned buildings and derelict homes next to Queen’s Mill have now been demolished and work continues to prepare the site of the Crimea Tavern for demolition.

This will make space for two new public parks along the riverside, one to the west of the Mill and one to the east, adjacent to the Ship Inn.

The newly created green spaces will offer places for play, planting, riverside walkways and seating areas. The aim is to create an area where people can enjoy views of the river and its wildlife, enjoy a drink or something to eat, and spend time with family and friends.
