We want everyone to have the same opportunity to take part in sport and physical activity, whatever their ability.

Sports should be used as a tool to unite communities. We are committed to providing high-quality disability sports, activities, and facilities for residents and visitors alike.

Aspire health disability offer

All our Aspire facilities are disability accessible. Each site offers parking and changing facilities. We offer reduced membership rates for users with disabilities.

We have clubs that operate from our facilities including disability swimming, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby.

Swimming

All our pools have specialist hoists to assist with getting in and out of our pools. We offer swimming lessons to all ages and abilities.

Cycling and walking

The adapted bikes at Thornes Park Stadium are available to hire out whenever the facility is open. They can be taken into the park to ride around the path.

St Georges Centre run a weekly Cycling For Fun session on Wednesday at Thornes Park Stadium. This session is for people with mobility and physical impairments. The mobility session is led by a qualified instructor and takes place on the outdoor track throughout the summer months and indoors through winter.

Adapted cycles support people with special needs in a controlled environment. Allowing the opportunity to create independence, creativity, and motivation.

Wednesdays 9.30am – 12pm (drop in whenever suits you) £3.20 a session.

Open Country are a Yorkshire-based charity with over 30 years of experience helping people with disabilities to access and enjoy the countryside. We achieve this through a variety of outdoor activities and the provision of information, training, and advice. Disability Sport Yorkshire

Disability Sport Yorkshire has committed to three major impacts by 2020. We aim to make Yorkshire the best place in England for disabled people to:

  • improve their health through physical activity
  • play sport on a regular basis
  • become a sporting champion

We aim to give disabled people in Yorkshire the best possible sporting experience they can have no matter where they live in the region. We aspire to be the organisation that everyone in Yorkshire looks to for advice and guidance on disability sport.
