What is a Connect Carer? 

A Connect Carer provides short break services within a Connect Carers’ home for children aged 0-18 who have a significant disability. This could be a physical or learning disability, or a sensory impairment.

Who can be a Connect Carer?

Connect Care welcomes applicants of all ages and from all sectors of the community, regardless of sexuality, gender, race, disability, culture, religious belief, age, social or marital status.

There are two types of Connect Carers

Connect Overnight Carer

Provide support to a disabled child over two weekends each month for at least 24 hours on each occasion and dependent upon their commitments, may provide some additional overnight support during school holidays.

To be considered as an overnight carer you must: -

  • have a spare room in your house to accommodate a child
  • be able to drive and have use of a car or a member of your household is a driver and has a car available to transport you and a child
  • be over 21
  • not have committed a serious offence
  • be a non – smoker (If you or someone within your household smokes your enquiry will still be considered however you will be limited to providing care for children over 5 years of age who is not a wheelchair user or has asthma)

The Assessment Process

All Overnight Connect Carers follow the same thorough recruitment and assessment process as a Foster Carer however the role they undertake is very specific.

The assessment process involves undergoing a short training course and in conjunction with a social worker will complete a fostering assessment during which several checks will be completed including a Disclosure and Barring service check and a medical examination.

The completed report is considered by the Fostering Panel who will decide whether applicants are suitable Foster Carers.

Connect Day Carers

Provide a disabled child with day care over a 4 - 6 hour period during weekdays, weekends and school holidays depending on the needs of the child and your availability.

To be considered as a day carer you must: -

  • Be a registered child-minder who holds a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating

What can we offer you?

  • An hourly rate of pay
  • A Mileage payment per mile when transporting children to and from your home
  • On-going support from the Connect Social Worker
  • Group support from other Connect Carers

The Assessment Process –Using your childminding registration and training we will undertake a short assessment, informed by your OFSTED approval and complete a Disclosure and Barring service check.
