Looking for a childminder?
A registered childminder looks after your child along with other children, usually in their own home.
They are allowed to care for up to six children under the age of eight, including their own child - but only three of them can be aged under five.
They are self-employed and decide on their working hours. Most are willing to work early mornings, evenings and weekends, as well as part-time.
All childminders are required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check and have completed a basic training course before they start. The training also includes completing a paediatric first aid and basic food hygiene certificate. Most childminders will go on to do further training and professional development throughout their career.
While attending the childminder your child should experience learning and development activities suitable for their age, which are based on Early Years Foundation Stage.
