Using Feeds (RSS)

What is RSS?

RSS, in the majority stands for 'Really Simple Syndication', though it is also known to stand for other things.  Basically, RSS is a standard for providing a Feed of news stories, or sharing articles, between web sites.

How do I use RSS?

There are a great number of web pages out there, and keeping up to date with all the news which is of interest to you is becoming an increasing task.  You can use RSS to let the information you want, come to you.

This is done by way of a 'News Reader'.  The news reader will read the RSS Feed, and present you with the news you want.  This way, you can have the news from all your favorite sites in one place, by letting a news reader grab all the RSS Feeds for you.

To use the Wakefield News Feed, click on the appropriate link below, and paste the address of the web page into your news reader. Some readers will let you simply drag and drop the link below into the reader.

Where do I find a News Reader?

There are many news readers available on the web.  Some web browsers automatically support feeds, as do some e-mail programs.  Links to some News Readers are available in the Related Links section of this page.
Please note that this list is for your convenience, WMDC has not tested the quality of this software, and does not advocate any particular product.

Use of the Service

Use of our RSS feeds is on the basis that the text content is presented unchanged from that contained in the feed. This service can be used by individuals and organisations for non-profit making purposes.
