Academies and Voluntary Academies

These schools follow guidelines from their governing body and do not have to follow our Admissions Policy. Their Admissions Policies will also contain details of how places are allocated if the Academy is oversubscribed.

Any changes to an Academy's Admissions Policy will also have a six week consultation period that has to be finished by 31 January 2017.

Details of each academy's admissions policy and any changes they are making for 2018/2019 will be available on their website.

You should respond to any proposed changes to the academy itself by the date specified in their consultation notice.

You can contact the School Admissions Team on 01924 305624 or by email at koxer@wakefield.gov.uk if you need any information regarding an academy who is changing their admissions policy.

Voluntary Aided (Church) Schools, Foundation Schools and the Education Ossett Community Trust Schools

These schools set their own admission arrangements.

Any changes to their Admissions Policies will also have a six week consultation period that has to be finished by 31 January 2017.

Details for each school's admissions policy and any changes they are making for 2018/2019 will be available on the school's website.

You should respond to any proposed changes to the school itself by the date specified in their consultation notice.

Changes to the catchment area boundaries to the City Fields area and the Carleton, Cathedral, Horbury, King's, Ossett and Outwood pyramids

Catchment areas must be designed so that they are reasonable and clearly defined. They must not prevent parents who live outside the catchment of a particular school from expressing a preference for the school.

We are in the process of reviewing the catchment boundaries in the Wakefield District and is proposing changes to a number of catchment boundaries which may affect some schools in the City Fields area and also in the Carleton, Cathedral, Horbury, King's, Ossett and Outwood pyramids. Further details of the proposed changes can be found on the information page.

You should respond to our proposed admission arrangements including the changes to the catchment boundaries by 16 December 2016.

You should respond in writing to:

The Policy and Strategy Officer, School Admissions Team, Wakefield Council, Room 42 County Hall, Wakefield, WF1 2QL

Email: koxer@wakefield.gov.uk

Once the consultations are completed all admission authorities will determine their admission arrangements for 2018/2019 by 28 February 2017.

If you would like a paper copy of any of the Admission Policies or catchment boundary maps available on our website, please contact the School Admissions Team or email koxer@wakefield.gov.uk.
