What is Public Access?
Public Access is an online register of planning applications within the Wakefield District area since 1974. Public Access System has a complete electronic record of images from planning applications made since 2010 and an almost complete electronic capture of images submitted 1992 - 2010 (Major applications excluded). There are no electronic images pre 1992.
Public Access allows the functionality for you to:
- View and monitor the progress of planning applications online
- Comment on or object to an application online
- Identify if an appeal has been lodged
- View the result of that appeal where applicable
- View weekly and monthly lists of applications and decisions
- Set up search profiles and be automatically notified by email.

Commenting on or objecting to applications
Please be aware that all comments submitted by you are a matter of Public Record and will be placed on our website for inspection by the public.
- DO NOT include your signature
- DO NOT include your phone number
- DO NOT include any other information you are unwilling to publish on the Internet
- DO NOT include comments of a personal, slanderous, defamatory, or otherwise offensive or abusive nature as these may result in actions for libel
- DO include your surname, initials and address
If the comments are considered to be defamatory, frivolous or offensive, amount to a criminal act, or bring the Council into disrepute, they will be immediately removed in accordance with the law, including the Defamation Act 2013.
If you make these sort of comments, you could face legal action from the Council or the individual about whom the comment is being made.
We will only consider comments which include a name and postal address as we may need to contact you.
We will not acknowledge your comments, but any comments we receive will be displayed on Public Access.
Plans, drawings and materials submitted to the Council are protected by the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988 (Section 47). You may only download or print material for consultation or inspection purposes. Further copies must not be made without the prior permission of the copyright owner (the applicant / agent / architect) or you will be in breach of copyright.
The online planning history contained within the site maybe incomplete and should not be relied upon in connection with a property transaction. Anyone wishing to obtain planning information for this purpose is advised to Contact Local Land
Charges to carry out a Local Land Charges search.
No responsibility will be taken for any errors or omissions in the planning history information obtained from Public Access. Similarly, the information contained with Public Access does not constitute in any way a formal notification of a planning decision, and as such any actions taken as a result of information displayed on the site are undertaken entirely at the viewer's own risk.

Measuring Drawings and Plans online
The online measuring tools help to assist you in accurately measuring drawings and plans. There are two methods available to do this depending on the date of the application. Prior to October 2012 you are required to use Adobe PDF Reader. After October 2012 you can use the online tools to assist you with your enquiry. Both methods are documented in our user guide
