Safeguarding adults refers to:
"All the work which enables an adult [at risk] to retain independence, wellbeing and choice and to access their human right to live a life that is free from abuse and neglect" (ADASS, 2005, Safeguarding Adults)
The definitions, policy, procedures and the roles of partner agencies working to prevent and deal with abuse when it occurs are fully explained in the West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults policy and procedures.

The Board has a constitution and an excellent and committed membership. The Board has a three year strategic plan which is updated annually. The Board meets quarterly and highlight reports are presented at the meeting as well as monitoring the strategic plan and performance framework to review performance in terms of quantity and quality data.
There are three sub-groups that meet on a regular basis

This group considers service provider safeguarding information and what preventative support can be provided.
This group promotes awareness and organises networking events with a view to informing service provider staffs about safeguarding issues in order to prevent these issues arising.
Quality and performance sub-group
