The Core Strategy sets out the spatial vision, objectives, development strategy and a series of over-arching strategic policies that will guide the scale, location and type of development in the District until 2026.
Preparing the document has included wide ranging consultation and engagement with the public and interested parties, details and documents of the main stages are available below.
A senior government planning inspector found the Core Strategy sound after examining it throughout 2008.
The Council adopted the Core Strategy on 15 April 2009.
The document now forms part of the Local Plan, the statutory development plan for Wakefield District, and replaces many of the policies in the Unitary Development Plan.
