HUG - Home Upgrade Grant 2

Wakefield Council has secured government funding from the Department of Energy, Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to deliver home energy efficiency improvements across the district.

We are only able to support homeowners whose properties are not heated by mains gas.

Eligibility

You may be eligible for this funding if:

  • your home does not have mains gas central heating; AND
  • your household (or your tenants) have a combined gross annual income of up to £36,000 or you live in an area pre-identified by DESNZ; AND
  • your property has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Rating of D-G

Only homes within the Wakefield District are eligible for this funding.

If you think you might be eligible for funding you can apply below.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL FUNDING IS DISCRETIONARY

What could I have done?

All works would be carried out by qualified contractors appointed by Wakefield Council.

The funding requires all installations to be delivered to British Standard Institute’s best practice PAS2035. You will be visited by a Retrofit Assessor who will develop a bespoke plan for your property which could include:

  • insulation (internal wall, cavity wall, loft and/or external wall)
  • draught proofing
  • installation of new heating systems, like Air Source Heat Pumps
  • heating and hot water controls
  • ventilation improvements
  • renewable energy generation, like roof-top solar panels

DESNZ want to support householders to move away from fossil fuels (coal, LPG, oil etc.) heating and unfortunately will not be able to install fossil fuel based heating systems and we are unable to complete work on properties where gas is the primary heating source.

How the scheme works

Complete the Healthy Housing application form to register your interest and one of the team will be in touch.

From that point, the process below is followed to reach the completion of an installation and is expected to take approximately 12 weeks.

  1. HUG Application Received by the Home Energy Team.
  2. Application checked to see if you qualify, if you do then move on to step
  3. The Retrofit Assessor will come and assess your home and produce a plan that shows the best energy efficiency upgrades to install and in what order.
  4. The Home Energy Team will discuss and agree which upgrades we are able to install.
  5. We will then arrange for an approved contractor to survey your home and provide quotes for the upgrades.
  6. This information is then submitted to DESNZ for approval.
  7. Once approved, the installation will be booked in by our approved contractors.
  8. The upgrades are then installed in your home at no cost to you.
  9. When the upgrades are complete, they will be checked and signed off by our Retrofit and Home Energy Team.
