Our housing priorities

In 2013 the Council approved the Housing Strategy 2013-18, 'Good Housing in a Thriving 21st Century District', which is our 5 year plan for housing. This Strategy also includes summaries of housing issues for the 7 Area Plan areas in the district. 

The Housing Strategy sets out how we will work with partners and residents to achieve the housing priorities identified in the Wakefield Together District Plan 2012-16 and the Wakefield District Jobs and Growth Plan 2012-17.

More Homes

Increasing the number of homes to rent and buy, to meet the needs of our growing population.

Better Homes and Better Places

Improving the quality of homes and neighbourhoods.

Housing Investment: Jobs, Training and opportunities for Business

Encouraging public and private investment in new and existing homes, to maximise the number of jobs, apprenticeships for local people and the opportunities local businesses. 

Better Homes, Better Health

Working to ensure that the right kinds of homes and support are available for people, no matter what their needs. 

A Housing strategy action plan has being drawn up setting out the targets we've set ourselves, and we'll be reporting back to you on this website on what we've achieved every year.
