Wakefield Energy Savers Loan

Funded by Wakefield Council and available through Leeds City Credit Union, the Energy Savers Loan is an interest free loan that you can use to help pay for insulation, heating and microgeneration work in your home.

Loans are available up to a maximum of £7,000 over a repayment period of 5 years.
You can select your own reputable installer to do the work, however the Council may be able to help you find someone if required.

To apply you must be an owner-occupier and meet ONE of the following criteria:

  1. Be aged 60 or over

  2. Be in receipt of an income related benefit (excluding Child Tax Credit)

  3. Be in receipt of Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit and have a net household income of less than £16,010

If you do not meet ONE of the three criteria listed above you may also qualify by undergoing a simple application assessment by our Loans Officer.

Wakefield Energy Repayment Loan

The Energy Repayment Loan can be used to carry out home energy efficiency works to reduce fuel poverty and improve affordable warmth and can include measures such as insulation, replacement boilers and better heating controls. It is a monthly repayable interest free loan registered as a Legal Charge. Loans are available are between £300 and £3,000 and the maximum repayment is 5 years. There is a small set up cost and this is confirmed at the application stage.

You can select your own reputable installer to do the work, however the Council may be able to help you find someone if required.

To apply you must be an owner-occupier aged over 18 and meet the following criteria both a and b:

 

a. Be in receipt of a means tested or disability benefit or have a gross household income of less than £21,000 and

 

b.

  • Live in a property that is Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rated E, F and G, or
  • Live in a property that is EPC rated D and have one characteristic of fuel poverty*, or
  • Live in a property that is EPC rated D and have health condition made worse by the cold#

*Characteristics of fuel poverty are:

  • There is a child under the age of 16 resident in the household
  • There is a resident aged over 70 in the household
  • The property has solid walls, non-standard cavity walls, system build wall, is off the gas network, or has no loft

#Health conditions made worse by the cold include but are not limited to chronic respiratory, cardio vascular, musculoskeletal illness, or mental health conditions
