Mayoral Referendum results 2012
The question voters were asked was:
How would you like Wakefield Council to be run?
The options and the votes for each were:
|By a leader who is an elected councillor chosen by other elected councillors. This is how the Council is run now||45,357 (62.2%)|
|By a mayor who is elected by voters. This would be a change from how the Council is run now||27,610 (37.8%)|
|Total votes cast ||73,547|
|Percentage turnout ||28.84%|
As the majority of votes cast in this referendum were in favour of the Council being run by a Leader who is an elected councillor chosen by the other elected councillors, then the Council was required to continue to operate a Leader and Cabinet Executive.
