Starting school or moving from one school to another can be a worrying time for both parents and children. We aim to make the school admissions process as painless and trouble free as we can and if problems do arise, for example if we cannot offer your child a place at the school you want, the School Admissions Team will discuss alternatives with you and give you details of the appeals arrangements.
All of us in Family Services want your child to be happy and successful throughout their school career.
We do hope that will prove to be the case, and that your child will take full advantage not just of the high standard of teaching our schools offer, but also of the full range of extra-curricular activities many schools have available.
These pages explain Wakefield policies and information on school admissions from starting primary school through to high school.
The Local Authority has recently consulted on and its proposed admission arrangements for the 2014/2015 school year. It has also consulted on behalf of a number of Academies within the Wakefield District who are proposing to adopt their own admission policies for 2014/2015.
These policies indicate how the Local Authority and Academies will decide the order of priority that children will be admitted into an oversubscribed school/academy during the 2014/2015 school year.
The Local Authority’s admission arrangements for 2014/2015 have now been agreed by the Council.
Details of the agreed Admission and Co-ordination Policies for the 2012/2013, 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 academic years can be found under ‘Admission Policies’.
