Introducing the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress

Councillor Stuart Heptinstall and Miss Charlotte Heptinstall

Born in Wakefield in 1947, Stuart attended Manygates Infants School, Heath View Junior and Manygates Secondary Modern Schools. On completing his studies, Stuart went into the mining industry and secured a mining craft electrical apprenticeship
with the National Coal Board. He worked at Park Hill Colliery until its closure in 1983. He then transferred to the Selby coal field where he worked as an Electrician and then Health and Safety Officer at Riccall Mine, Selby until his retirement.

In his early years Stuart played schools rugby league. As a keen supporter of Wakefield Trinity, he followed them at home and away matches and remembers some great games played at Belle Vue. Cycling was another interest and with friends he made the ride to the east coast and back on more than one occasion. In the early sixties the
MECCA ballroom was the place to be on a Saturday afternoon and it was here, after the dance hall closed, that Stuart first met Christine, his wife of 51 years.

Stuart and Christine married in 1966 and have lived at Eastmoor, Wakefield for 51 years. Dedicated to their family, they have three children Stephen, Lee and Sharon, seven grandchildren and one great grandson Jayden.

Stephen is engaged to Catherine and has three children, Amy, Tom and Charlotte (the Deputy Mayoress). Lee has one daughter Natallie, and Sharon, with her husband Peter, have three boys Nash, Cavan and Kyran.

Elected in 2015, Stuart represents Wakefield East Ward 16 and is a member of the Planning and Highways Committee and the Corporate Parenting Panel.

Born in Wakefield, Charlotte has lived in Stanley all her life. She has been a member of the Stanley Scouts and Cubs movement from the age of six. Over the years she has represented Outwood Grange Academy in numerous sports. She is currently studying for her A Levels and, if successful, Charlotte hopes to go onto university to study Theology and Religion. She spent a month volunteering in Ecuador in 2015 on a humanitarian mission, helping and working with local communities to improve their way of life.

Admirable choices for Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress, Stuart and Charlotte look forward to supporting the Mayor and Mayoress and fulfilling their duties for the people of the Wakefield District.
