Introducing the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress
Councillor Charlie Keith and Mrs Grace Keith
Born in Kirkthorpe, Charlie attended Normanton Secondary Modern School. At 15 he became an indentured apprentice Gas Fitter at the then North Eastern Gas Board, in 1968.
By the time he was 21 he had become fully qualified and was continuing his education and training. He became the youngest fitter on the emergency out of hours response team dealing with gas escapes. Charlie started at Wakefield Council in 1975 and worked there until 1979 when he became self-employed which he is still today, 39 years later.
Charlie has been active in the community for many years. He has volunteered at Pontefract and Pinderfields Hospitals as well as for BBC TV in many Children in Need projects. It was this experience that led to Charlie being requested to act as a Master of Ceremonies at many events.
He has served as a school governor for over 30 years serving in primary, secondary and tertiary sectors including Chairman of the Governing body.
Charlie has always engaged with politics. He was a Featherstone Town Councillor from 1991 to 1995. In 2011 he was elected as a Member of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council representing Ward 21, Wrenthorpe and Outwood West. Charlie serves on the Adults Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
A proud family man, Charlie is married to Grace, who works as a Service Centre Manager for West Yorkshire Pension Fund and has an adult son and daughter, and two grand-daughters.
Charlie and Grace look forward to supporting the Mayor and Mayoress and fulfilling their duties
for the people of the Wakefield District.
