16 June 2018
We are proud to be supporting Wakefield Armed Forces Day again this year - it takes place on Saturday 16 June at Pontefract Park.
We will be updating this page with more information about what’s taking place on the day once we have it, but in the meantime you can get regular updates by finding us on Facebook.
Where is Pontefract Park?
Is it free?
Yes, parking and entry are free. Charges may apply for some attractions on the day.
There is free parking available. However, we are expecting a busy day so if possible please car share or use public transport. There are train stations and a bus station very close by in the centre of Pontefract.
There is a blue badge parking area. The parking assistants will direct you to this when you present them with your badge.
Well behaved dogs are welcome. They must be kept on leads, and you should bring poop scoops to clear up mess. Unfortunately, there is no running water on the site so please bring water for your dog. We are expecting a busy day, so please only bring your dogs if they are comfortable around crowds.
Food and drink
There are plenty of vendors on site selling all kinds of food and drink, and we would urge you to support these local businesses. However, please also feel to bring your own picnic, and a picnic blanket.
There are no cash facilities on site, so remember to bring some money with you. There is a farmer’s market, a couple of local micro-breweries, face-painting, and much more.
Remember, all of our stalls are local Yorkshire businesses, so if you can show your support by buying their products they would appreciate the support.
We urge you to take your own photos and share them on our Twitter page (@MyWakefield) or Facebook page (/WakefieldArmedForcesDay) – remember to use the hashtags #SaluteOurForces #WakefieldArmedForcesDay
We have an official photographer on the day, who will be taking photos across the whole site. We will be sharing these on our social media pages, on local media, on printed materials, and other promotional materials.
