Wakefield’s skills and careers event for young people: Choices @ 16 +
Tuesday 25 September, 10am – 6.30pm
Choices @ 16 +’ is Wakefield’s annual skills and careers event for young people, providing information and inspiration on jobs, careers, further and higher education.
This year’s event will be held at Pontefract Racecourse, and is being organised in partnership between Wakefield Council, WDH, Go Higher and the National Collaborative Outreach Programme.
The event includes opportunities to…
Speak to sixth forms, colleges and universities
Meet local employers
Try your hand at interactive activities such as trades and skills
Get advice and guidance on your career opportunities
The event is open to schools and colleges between 10am to 3.30pm, with students and young people also able to attend on their own or with family from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.
Education or training up to 18
Did you know it is now a legal requirement you stay in some form of education or training until your 18th birthday?
There are lots of options available once you leave year 11, including staying on at college or sixth form, enrolling onto an apprenticeship or traineeship, or studying part time alongside employment or volunteering.
