Traffic Consultation – Tadman Street

Following the introduction of Coach parking facilities on Tadman Street earlier this year, we are now consulting on proposals to formalise this coach parking and tackle obstructive parking.
The coach parking was introduced earlier this year as part of our welcome to coach visitors, which included the introduction of ‘free to use’ coach parking facilities at locations in the city centre.
However the Council has received reports of vehicles parking obstructively in Tadman Street near the coach parking bays. Vehicles parked near the parking bays and adjacent or opposite the various junctions/accesses can obstruct larger vehicles accessing the nearby business premises.
The following improvements are now proposed on the section of Tadman Street between its junction with Thornes Lane Wharf and the Council depot:
Introducing ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions (double yellow lines) on Tadman Street on both sides of the road outside of the coach parking bays; and
Formalising the coach parking facilities by including them in a Traffic Regulation Order and signing the parking bays to indicate that they are for the use of ‘buses’ only, allowing for enforcement to be carried out. The parking bay nearest the western access to the Double Two site will be reduced in length to allow better access from the Double Two site.
Once enforceable, the effect of these restrictions will be such that access to the coach parking facilities and to the premises accessed from this section of Tadman Street will be maintained, thereby improving the amenity of the area and generally improving the passage of vehicles on the highway.
Businesses and residents in the area around Tadman Street are invited to have their say on the proposals by completing our survey by Friday 14 December, ahead of a more formal consultation.
