Glasshoughton Southern link road
We are proposing to build a link road which will extend the existing Whistler Drive to Bruce Smeaton Way at the Cutsyke Road roundabout.
The Glasshoughton Southern Link Road will provide a more direct route to the leisure / retail area from Wakefield and Normanton, reduce congestion and improve accessibility.
It will result in a significant reduction in traffic on the A639 / A6539 corridor immediately north of the Glasshoughton development area.
The additional highway capacity will also improve conditions for bus services, pedestrians and cyclists.
The scheme is expected to cost around £7m and will be fully funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through the West Yorkshire Transport Fund.
Both Harworth Estates and Waystone Ltd have agreed to dedicate land as highway.
We submitted a planning application for the road on Friday 23 March.
