Traffic Calming Requests

Speed is a factor in many of the personal injury accidents that occur on our roads.  Traffic speeds can be reduced by installing traffic calming features such as speed humps, speed tables, speed cushions and chicanes, as well as the “flashing” message signs that illuminate a warning message such as “Slow Down” to drivers who are travelling too fast.

The Council considers all requests and uses an assessment method, based on site investigation and surveys, to determine whether measures are justified or not.  For those selected extensive local consultation is carried out before a scheme is proposed, and the scheme is monitored after installation.

If you would like to request traffic calming on your street, fill in the Traffic Request Form and send it to the address at the top of the form. Please give as much detail as possible to help us to carry out our investigation.
