Speed limits are also enforced through legal orders.  Excessive or inappropriate speeding is a contributory factor in around a third of all accidents and is a major problem.

20mph zones are being trialled within the district in conjunction with traffic calming schemes near to schools.

These 20mph zones are currently in operation within the district:-

• High Street, Horbury
• Agbrigg Road, Agbrigg
• Lake Lock Road, Stanley
