A Section 58 is a legal notice which is served on all the 'statutory undertakers' who carry out work in the Wakefield District. Statutory undertakers can include the following type of companies – Northern Gas Networks, British Telecom, Yorkshire Electricty, Yorkshire Water, Virgin Media, etc.
The Section 58 prevents 'statutory undertakers' from digging up the road for a period of between 3-5 years after the road has been resurfaced or reconstructed. In special cases 'statutory undertakers' can dig up a road if there is an emergency or if they need to provide a new customer service.
