Utility companies and highway authorities need to complete works on the highway to provide and maintain a safe road network and essential services such as gas, water, telecommunications and electricity.
The council is required to maintain a register of all works carried out in the highway in the Street Works Register. This is a record, by street name, of all current and proposed works carried out by utility companies and the highway authority.
The Roadworks.org map (see below) gives extensive information about the location and details of road and street works and other notifiable highway events in the Wakefield District. The map also shows details of works on the Highways Agency motorway and Trunk Road network. Information may also be available from other Local Highway Authorities.
The data contained in the Street Works Register is updated every 10 minutes during the working day and the Roadworks Map is updated every 30 minutes so the information is as up to date as possible.
The weekly Highway Maintenance Roadworks Report identifies new and ongoing roadworks that are likely to cause disruption to motorists.
The Section 58 Restriction prevents digging up a road for a period of between 3 to 5 years after the road has been resurfaced or reconstructed.
