Residents/Visitors Permits

If you live within a Residents Parking Scheme you may apply for a Residents and/or Visitors parking permit. To qualify for a permit you must own or have use of a vehicle, this also includes company vehicles.

Residents and their visitors displaying the appropriate permit are entitled to park in the designated areas marked out on the highway. But please note:-

  • displaying a permit does not guarantee a space particularly outside your own property
  • the permit will display the street names relevant to the scheme and cannot be used on any other Residents Parking area
  • residents of the scheme and their visitors who do not display a parking permit run the risk of being issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice by the Police Traffic Wardens.

How to apply for a Resident/Visitor Parking Permit

  • You will need to complete an online application form (see 'Online Forms') or by telephoning the Wakefield Council Contact Centre - 0845 8 506 506

Proof will be required before a Residents or Visitors permit can be issued.

Residents

    • Proof of residency: e.g. tenancy agreement or utility bill
    • Proof of vehicle ownership: e.g. vehicle registration document or insurance document - this must show the address and registration number.
    • MOT certificate

Visitors

    • Proof of residency: e.g. tenancy agreement or utility bill

Only one visitors permit is allowed per household and it is the responsibility of the householder to retrieve the permit when the visitor leaves the property.

Charges

The only charge made is a £5.00 replacement charge for a lost Visitors permit.

Renewal of a permit

Whenever a vehicle is changed then a new Residents parking permit will be required. The process of applying for a new permit will be the same as the above.

How to report a scheme that is being abused

You will have to make contact with the local Police station for your area as their Traffic Wardens are responsible for the enforcement of Resident Parking Schemes.
