Can’t find what you’re looking for?

The Wakefield Council website is large. There is a lot of information on here covering the hundreds of services provided by the council, so it is quite likely that you may have difficulty finding what you’re looking for.

Just browsing?

If you’re just browsing the site then you may prefer to use the general category links in the Main Menu.

All the information on the site is stored in subject areas. These subject areas are not arranged by council departments (which can keep changing when a council is restructured) but are based on a generic list called the Local Government Navigation List used by many council websites across the country.

To get a feel of what is in each category take a look at the Site Map using the link at the top of every page under the search box.

Looking for something specific?

Here are some suggestions to help you in your search if you are looking for something specific:-

  1. If you want to report a problem, pay, or apply for a council service then you may find it listed on the website’s homepage under ‘I Want To…’.

Choose from one of the drop down menus, then click ‘Go’.

  2. Use the A to Z Index.

This can be the quickest way to locate what you want. It appears along the top of every page and lists alphabetically the services and topics covered on the site.

  3. Use the Search, located at the top of every page on the site. Just enter a word or two and click ‘Go’.

We have set up ‘Recommended Links’ for regularly searched for pages (e.g. council tax) and these will appear at the very top of the search results page.

If the search returns too many results try using the ‘advanced search’ to create a more precise search.

If the search doesn’t return any results:-

    • have you spelt your search word correctly?
    • is it something the council is responsible for? (for example the council is not responsible for housing, the police service, the fire service or hospitals)

Please note: our search only looks at content on the Wakefield Council site and will not search the libraries catalogue, the agenda and minutes database, the 'Where I Live' mapping service or the Public Access planning website. Those sites each have their own search facility.

  4. If you continue to have problems finding the information you require please email the web team – internet@wakefield.gov.uk – and we will try to help.
