Getting around the site and finding information
There are several useful ways to find information on this site:
Use the links in the ‘Main Menu’ column.
These are organised by category and clicking on one will bring up a list of pages related to the category you chose. Click a link on the list that appears to find further information. The links in the Main Menu' column are constant and will appear on every page of the site.
This list, based on the Local Government Category List, is a method used by many councils to organise their website content. It means that the same terms will be used by all councils instead of using the different and, often, confusing names of council departments.
Use the search facility
This appears at the top of each page. Type a search word into the box and click the ‘search’ button to view a list of pages related to your search word. Click a link in the results list to view the page. If you want to try a more specific search click the ‘Advanced Search’ link under the search box to access more search options.
Use the site A-Z
The Site A-Z link appears at the top of each page. It provides a useful list of information categories grouped alphabetically. It defaults to categories beginning with the letter ‘A’. Click another letter to see more categories.
Use the Site Map
The Site Map link appears at the top of each page. It provides a list of subjects covered under each of the links in the ‘Main Menu’ column.
Getting back to the Home Page
You can get back to the Home (front) page of the site at any time by clicking the ‘Home’ link under the ‘Main Menu’ heading on the left hand side of any page.
The Breadcrumb Trail
The breadcrumb trail appears automatically as you browse through the site. You will see the words ‘You are here:’ followed by a list of links. These links let you move up through the site structure and can be handy if you need to get back to a higher level page quickly.
Also In...
On some pages an ‘Also In’ heading will appear in the right column. This provides a handy list of links to pages in the same level as the one you are viewing. Try clicking one now to visit another page in this 'Site Help' section.
