Waste Development Plan Document: Preferred Options Consultation: August/October 2008
The purpose of this consultation stage is to seek the views of the community and stakeholders on the preferred options for managing our waste.
The following documents are available for inspection and comment.
- Waste Development Plan Document – Preferred Options Report.
- Sustainability Appraisal Report (this assesses the social, economic and environmental effects of the policy and site options against a series of sustainability objectives).
The preferred options report of the Waste Development Plan Document builds on the issues and options stage which took place during March and April 2008. Specifically, it sets out:
- our proposed spatial vision for managing waste in Wakefield to 2026;
- a series of spatial objectives to help deliver this vision;
- a series of draft policies that will provide the basis for assessing planning applications for waste related developments;
- our preferred and rejected site options, including strategic and local sites for managing waste from households and commercial and industrial waste; and
- proposed monitoring indicators and targets.
We have already carried out two rounds of public consultation with the community and our partners to raise awareness about the process and invite views about the issues it should address. Your comments at this preferred options stage will be taken into account at the next stage of the process. A short information note about the document is available (see `Downloads’). We have also prepared the following supporting documents:
- Site Appraisal for Waste Management Facilities
- Appropriate Assessment of the Waste Development Plan Document (Screening Report)
- Waste Development Plan Document - Evidence Report
- Initial Statement of Pre-Submission Consultation.
Following this public consultation the document will be revised and submitted to the secretary of state in March to April 2009. At which time another public consultation will take place.
The consultation process begins on Thursday 28 August 2008. All comments should reach us no later than 5:00pm on Wednesday 8 October 2008. The consultation also provides a further opportunity for relevant parties to nominate alternative waste management sites for consideration in the emerging document.
