The Council is currently preparing the Waste Development Plan Document that will set out how we will manage waste from industrial and business sources as well as from our homes and will include site proposals and policies to guide decisions about the location and operation of new waste-related developments.  The document will form part of Wakefield’s Local Development Framework.

There are a number of stages involved in preparing this document. We are now at the issues and options stage and we are seeking your views on what you think are the main issues for managing waste and the options for addressing them. We are also inviting relevant parties to nominate potential waste management sites for consideration.

We have already consulted informally with local people and organisations to raise awareness about the process and invited initial views about the issues it should address during November and December 2007.

A report has been prepared setting out the results and key outcomes of the early engagement consultation (see ‘Downloads’).  

The Waste Development Plan Document will take into account the Council’s Municipal Waste Management Strategy and the proposed municipal waste management facility at South Kirkby.

• Initial Sustainability Appraisal Report (This assesses the social, economic and environmental effects of the options against a series of sustainability objectives)

The consultation period starts on 20 March 2008 and will finish 5pm on 30 April 2008.
