The purpose of the Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA) is to identify and analyse current and future broad scale flooding issues for key locations across Wakefield District, as well as those in Calderdale and Kirklees districts. Specific flood risk maps for the Wakefield District have been prepared.

The SFRA has been prepared in accordance with guidance in government's Planning Policy Statement 25 (PPS25) and supersedes the previous SFRA dated May 2005. For further information and guidance relating to PPS25 please see 'Related Links'.

The Environment Agency is satisfied that the SFRA 2008 fulfils the requirements of PPS25.

Additional elements included in the SFRA 2008 which builds on the previous SFRA include:

• taking account of advances in risk information;
• inclusion of climate change mapping;
• provision of flood extent, depth and hazard maps;
• identification of functional floodplain;
• consideration of flooding from "other sources";
• a greater focus on the application of the PPS25 Exception Test.

The report and flood risk maps for the District-wide level 1 SFRA, as well as the level 2 SFRA prepared for the Central Wakefield Area Action Plan, can be downloaded, but please be aware that some maps are very large file sizes.
