The Ridings shopping centre

The first phase in a multi-million pound programme of makeover works has now been completed at The Ridings shopping centre.

After working with Wakefield Council during the last year, the centre has undergone a host of structural and cosmetic changes driven forward by owners Moorfield Group.

These include the creation of three striking new entrances at Cathedral Walk, Almshouse Lane and Kirkgate that use glass and natural light to enhance the shopping environment.

Other improvements include:

  • Improved food offer with re-designed food court
  • Installation of new fully glazed feature lifts
  • Creation of a new café on Bishopsgate Walk
  • Improvements to the surrounding public realm

A host of retailers have demonstrated their continued commitment to The Ridings and the centre goes from strength-to-strength.

15 of the centre’s retailers have renewed their leases with the centre, and a further five new outlets have opened in recent months.

The Ridings continues to be a trusted shopping destination in Wakefield city centre, bucking the current economic trend.

The centre provides some 265,000 sq ft of retail space on three levels, together with parking for more than 1,000 cars.

Latest news:

Plans are now under way on phase two of the improvement programme, which will see the creation of a further 60,000 sq ft of modern retail space at the centre.
