Phase 1 – New Market Hall was opened in July 2010
The new food hall marked the completion of the city’s market development offering shoppers a variety of culinary delights in the new hall.
The Market provides a mix of traditional market stalls such as the fishmonger, butcher and baker, and some more unique ones, like the Italian style café and African goods.
A distinguishing feature of the new food hall is the demonstration station – a fully equipped kitchen area, complete with microphones and mounted television screens, which enable cookery demonstrations and classes to visitors.
Phase 2 - Trinity Walk Shopping Centre
Since new developers; Sovereign Land, AREA Property Partners and Shepherd Construction took over the site in spring 2010, work re-commenced promptly and progressing very quickly, with the shopping centre finally opening on 6th May 2011.
Trinity Walk will provide more than 50 large, modern retail units across a 500,000 sq ft acre site. The shopping centre will include a line up of top high-street names including Sainsbury's, Debenhams, Next, H&M, River Island, Peacocks, ASDA Living, Carphone Warehouse and Orange. A 950 space car park serves both the shopping centre and the city centre. Around 1500 jobs are expected to be created as part of the overall scheme.
The council is also investing in a substantial programme of high quality realm works on the adjacent street to complement and integrate the new retailing into the existing city centre.
