This is not simply a New Market and Shopping Centre but a New Retail Quarter for the City Centre. 

A substantial area of the City Centre has been declining over the last few years, but will be transformed over the next 2 years.  It will connect seamlessly with the existing city centre and surrounding areas, and will include:-

• New market hall designed by David Adjaye Associates
• New outdoor market
• New city centre library
• Sainsbury's superstore 
• Debenhams department store
• 2 new public squares
• 950 car parking spaces
• 64 apartments within the scheme

Timescale:-

• New Market Hall commenced September 2007 - Completion June 2008
• New Marsh Way Road commenced October 2007 - Opens to traffic September 2008, completed March 2009
• New Retail Development commence September 2008 - Completion May 2010
