Langthwaite Business Park
Langthwaite Business Park (formerly Langthwaite Grange Idustrial Estate) in South Kirkby has undergone a major transformation since 2002, when it was regarded as one of Wakefield district's most troubled estates. The redevelopment of the estate has taken place thanks to a unique partnership between first (the Wakefield District Development Agency), English Partnerships, Wakefield Council, the South Yorkshire Forest Partnership and the resident businesses.
A £1.1M capital investment from English Partnerships led the transformation of the site, with improvements made to security, safety, transport and the look and feel of the 160 acre park. The vision included enhanced CCTV systems, new lighting and fencing and improved landscaping and signage. The Langthwaite Business Association was established in 2005 to manage systems and provide additional security services such as patrols, key holding and rapid alarm response, since when Langthwaite has attracted more that £12M of additional private investment.
Today Langthwaite is home to 83 businesses and provides 1,418 jobs to the local community. Already home to innovative companies such as Eterniti Steels and Seguro Logistics, long term Langthwaite residents Litestructures have demonstrated their confidence by building a state-of-the-art 17,000 sq ft music rehearsal facility on the estate.
