Prince of Wales Site

Gateway to Pontefract

Following the closure of the Prince of Wales Colliery in 2002, UK Coal consultants Spawforth Associates have produced a master plan for the reclamation of the site and to ensure its integration with Pontefract's town centre.

Two planning applications have been granted for the site. Outline permission has been approved for the colliery site where it is anticipated that the site will accommodate a variety of uses including offices, residential and leisure uses. It is proposed that 900 homes will be built and improvements to the highway network will be undertaken. The second approval is for the spoil tips where extensive reclamation of these and the lagoon are being undertaken.
